Finally, we extend thanks to all those who have attended the public workshops of this study or have otherwise provided valuable comments and feedback. ii PREFACE The Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Program supports public interest energy research, development and demonstration (RD&D) that will help improve the quality of life in California by bringing environmentally safe, affordable and reliable energy services and products to the marketplace. The PIER Program annually awards up to $62 million to conduct the most promising public interest energy research by partnering with RD&D organizations including individuals, businesses, utilities, and public or private research institutions. PIER brings new energy services and products to the marketplace and creates statewide environmental and economic benefits. PIER funding efforts are focused on the following RD&D program areas:

Opinion on Integration : Market and Product Review , Phase 1
The Market Surveillance Committee (MSC) of the California Independent System Operator has been asked to provide an opinion on the three components of the Nov. 4, 2011 Draft Final Proposal for the Renewable Integration: Market and Product Review, Phase 1. The purpose of that proposal is to identify modifications to the market rules that could be quickly implemented in order to facilitate integra...
متن کاملUsing Dynamic Thermal Rating and Energy Storage Systems Technologies Simultaneously for Optimal Integration and Utilization of Renewable Energy Sources
Nowadays, optimal integration and utilization of renewable energy sources (RES) are of the most challenging issues in power systems. The wind and solar generation units' maximum production may or may not occur at peak consumption times resulting in non-optimal utilization of these resources. As a solution to this problem, energy storage systems (ESS) are embedded in networks. However, the power...
